Salvation Army History Websites and Academic Resources

The SA Historical and Philatetic Association has an interesting website, which includes Kindle books and other resources.  If you are interested in SA history you should also consider joining the facebook group.

Salvationist.ca has a good list of SA History websites, including the Army’s International Heritage Centre and other Territorial Heritage Centres, museums, and archives.

Although the Rubicon is no longer an active website, the archives are still up, and under the “education” category are several academic papers and theses available for download.

Word and Deed: A Journal of Salvation Army Theology and Ministry is an academic journal which has been published since 1998.   You can get back issues here.

Though it is just getting off the ground, Booth University College in Winnipeg has established a Centre for Salvation Army Studies.  They have started a lecture series, and have published their first book – Boundless Salvation: The Shorter Writings of William Booth, with Peter Lang (see my review here).

Note: I have included books mostly from Internet Archive, because this site provides scanned-image books, which are ideal for research, since they are images of the hard-copies, and therefore include the original page numbers.  You can also access some of them through Princeton Theological Seminary’s Theological Commons, which has a nicer search interface.  There other sites, like Project Gutenberg and the Wesley Center Online, that have Salvationist books available in a typed-out formats.  Sometimes these files include original pagination, and sometimes they do not.  Internet Archive also provides options for downloading files in several formats, including plain text, epub, and Kindle.  See also Jon’s comment below about a site where you can get some of these for Kindle for a low price.
